How often should I change my air filter?
How often you change your air filter depends on your own particular house or business facility.

In residential locations, the air filter often only needs to be changed once a year. We recommend that you check the filter every three months for a period of time to determine if you may need to replace the filter more frequently than once a year.

Businesses usually need more frequent air filter replacements. The frequency is dependent upon the type of business and the amount of dust or other particles in the air. We recommend quarterly maintenance for many businesses. Some businesses, such as restaurants, may require monthly filter changes.

Pleated air filters trap more particles and consequently need to be replaced more frequently than non-pleated filters.

What is the difference between a furnace and a boiler?
A furnace provides hot air heat, blowing air through the house via a system of ductwork and registers and grilles. A boiler provides hot water heat, circulating hot water through the house via baseboard, radiators, or radiant heat piping.

How often should my oil heater be cleaned?
Oil furnaces and boilers should be cleaned every year. Nozzles, oil filter cartridges, and pump strainers need to be changed annually for optimal system performance.

How often does my gas heater need to be serviced?
Gas furnaces and boilers do not get as dirty as oil systems and consequently do not need maintenance as frequently. If you change your own air filter, we recommend maintenance every other year.

How frequently does my air conditioner/heat pump need regular maintenance?
We recommend annual maintenance on air conditioners and heat pump systems.

My fan is running all the time. Is there anything I can check?
Check your thermostat to make sure you do not have it set in the “fan on” position.

My heater is not working. Is there anything I should check before I request a service call?
If nothing is running at all, check your emergency switch and the breaker. Check that the thermostat is set properly. It’s always a good idea to check the air filter to make sure it’s clear. You can also check that the door panel on the indoor unit is positioned properly because there is a safety switch that will keep the unit from operating if the door is not installed properly.
